Statement on Recent Airstrikes and Artillery Attacks by the Military Junta Following <\/strong>the Temporary Ceasefire<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. The military junta declared a temporary ceasefire for 20 days starting April 2, 2025, to facilitate earthquake recovery efforts. However, just one day after the announcement, an airstrike targeted Bhamo Township in Kachin State at 8:56 a.m., followed by another strike on Tanai Village, Homalin Township in Sagaing Region around 10:00 a.m<\/li>\n
  2. Following the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, the military junta carried out 63 airstrikes and artillery attacks, resulting in the deaths of 68 civilians, including one child and 15 women. These attacks included (13) attacks on Sagaing Region and (8) attacks on Mandalay Region, which was the worst affected by the earthquake. Additionally, as of April 3, 2025, the military junta continues to conduct offensive operations through ground forces in NyaungU Township in Mandalay, displacing civilian population in six villages.<\/li>\n
  3. The violent military junta is committing systematic and widespread grave human rights violations across Myanmar, including genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the junta continues to carry out indiscriminate airstrikes against civilians.<\/li>\n
  4. We call for accountability for the inhumane and brutal crimes committed by the military junta, including through international judicial mechanisms. We urge international governments and organizations, including the United Nations, are providing emergency assistance to those affected by the earthquake not to engage directly with the terrorist junta.
